Hebrews 10:26-39
Joseph Tucker teaches through Hebrews 10:26-39. Joseph is a pastor of Red Oak Church.
Hey Red Oak Family,
Many asked after the message Sunday where to find the sermon from Jonathan Edwards that was quoted. It’s entitled, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” and you can find a PDF here: https://img.sermonindex.net/modules/articles/article_pdf.php?aid=544
Here are gleanings from Hebrews 10:26-39 through the lens of our 5 questions:
What does this teach me about God?
God is holy, righteous, just, wrathful, merciful, and loving
God does not take sin lightly
God has righteous anger against sinners
God warns humanity of apostasy
What does this teach me about man?
We are deserving of God’s just and holy wrath
We are adversaries of God apart from Christ
Anyone who rejects Christ has rejected the only sacrifice for sins
We are warned to persevere in faith, hope, and love
What does this teach me about Jesus?
Jesus death is the only all-sufficient sacrifice for sins
Jesus absorbed the wrath of God in our place
Jesus is the Son of God/Son of Man who will return soon
What does God want me to know?
Jesus can be rejected, his person, work, and ministry
God’s wrath over sinners will be satisfied in either judgment or sacrifice
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom
The Cross of Christ is where God’s mercy, wrath, and love meet
What does God want me to do?
Fear the Lord and trust in Jesus (Faith)
Fear the Lord and place your hope in Jesus as the anchor of your soul (Hope)
Fear the Lord and grow in affection for Jesus and others (Love)
Father God, we praise you for the reality that your love through Jesus makes a way of escape for us from your just and holy wrath over sin. We acknowledge our guilt, our deserving your wrath, punishment, and death as rebels. We praise you for Jesus, the righteous being sacrificed for the unrighteous. Thank you for being the just and the justifier of those who put their faith in you. Holy Spirit thank you for your patience and your grace. Help us to fear you and grow in faith, hope, and love. In Jesus name, Amen!
In Christ,
Joseph
